Kingdom of Germaneigh: Firearms

Practical to a fault, the Germane armed forces largely use adapted weapon designs with proven mechanical systems. Germaneigh didn't have a serious military force at the beginning of the War, simply a Royal Guard that more or less kept the peace around the palace, and some Städtische Schutzwachen (Municipal Guards) to either chase bandits, or respond to occasional security issues. Largely living in even more peace and tranqulity in the last century and a half, Germaneigh was the most unprepared European nation, despite having territory about the same size or larger than Prance or Roam.

Germaneigh's only land based "martial tradition" comes from Waldjäger, or Forest Hunters, that normally hunted boars or other wild animals for consumption as food - Germane diets being even less meat-prominent than Equestria, meat is still a fixture for certain dishes, and a small, but steady, need exists for it (especially in Southern Germaneigh). Waldjäger are known to be excellent Crossbowponies, and very handy with the traditional Wildschweinspeer (Boar Spear), however these Waldjäger almost always worked alone, or in parent-child or sibling pairs at the largest.

The SIGW P291 is the general issue sidearm for all Germane ground forces. Reliable to a fault, the weapon was also sold in limited numbers to the Ambleonian Horse Guards Regiment as a ceremonial and combat sidearm.

The SIGW P292 is issued as a sidearm to officers, second-line, and administrative personnel in the Germane armed forces, mainly the Air Force and Navy. A more compact gun for those that don't need a combat handgun except in self defense situations, the P292 is none the less a capable weapon, that can accept the larger P291 magazines in an emergency. Some were sold to the Ambelonian Horse Guards Regiment as an officer's pistol.

Germaneigh's first numbered sub-machine gun was the Zhukov, given as War Aid at the dawn of the NEIGHTO alliance. This was their first indigenous design. While still a blowback operation, like the Zhukov, it's gas delayed with a long stroke piston. Shooting is slightly softer than the Ridgway. As with the Vulpesylvanians, the Germanes developed an AP round, this using Tungsten, and capable of penetrating 0.75-inches (19mm) of hardened steel at 50 meters or less, at only slightly higher chamber pressure and velocity than the standard 9x23mm round, making it safe for all sub-machine guns used by NEIGHTO nations. The MP-2 is mainly issued to Municipal Guards, but is also used by Military Police and other billets that don't require a rifle.

The Meowser STG-03 is simply a Patton in 7mm NEIGHTO, as designed from the ground-up. Meowser also re-arsenalled donated Pattons to 7mm NEIGHTO (STG-02) and, while they outwardly resembled Prench Md. 1002's, they were properly re-engineered from the start. The STG-03 takes this conversion, makes a few more modifications, and produces a more-or-less "new" rifle, that has become standard issue to all Germane troops.

The same weight as the STG-03, the SSG-01 is a semi-automatic only rifle designed for high precision. The Germane Army developed the "W-Kugel" projectile, with a tungsten core, and a 25% higher chamber pressure and 12.5% increase in muzzle velocity, capable of penetrating 45mm (1.5-inch) of hardened armor steel plate at up to 200 meters. The round is NOT suitable for use in the STG-03, Bradley, or other rifles not intended for higher pressure rounds. The Grant rifle is approved for emergency use only. Expected accuracy with the "W-Kugel" is under 1MOA at 100 meters.

With even the W-Kugel 7mm round being somewhat less than desirably effective, the Germane Army participated in the "NEIGHTO Light Sniper Standard" program, along with Neighpon, Equestria, Roam, and Ambleon. This program sought to make a single standard sniper rifle round across all NEIGHTO forces. The 7mm W-Kugel was used as a benchmark of bare minimum performance from this new round, but greater velocity and terminal energy was desired, along with better armor penetration using standard tool steel as the penetrator instead of exotic materials like Tungsten. The result was the 8x60mm round. Germaneigh simply modified the SSG-01 with a new magazine well, recut chamber, and a new barrel. The 225gr (14.6gr) Sniper Round from this platform is capable of 1MOA (in metric, a 29mm deviation from point-of-aim at 100 meters), allowing it to hit targets at 1km with a 50% chance of terminal penetration (255mm penetration into a solid 20% gelatin block).

The MG-4/2 is a development of the earlier MG-4/1, a prototype-only design by Meowser Werke to replace the Equestrian Pershings converted to 7mm NEIGHTO (MG-3) that were prevalent in the early Germane armed forces. The MG-4/2 was adopted by the Germane Army at the start of 1004 C.S., and the design was also made by Roam, rather than adopt one of several failed indigenous macchine gun designs. The weapon was also sold to The Neigtherlands, though produced in Germaneigh. Robust, but heavy, the MG-4/2 has a blisteringly high rate of fire of 1200 rounds per minute on "fast fire." A rate reduction switch was added to reduce the rate of fire by half, which deactivates a small counterweight underneath the bolt, that normally travels with it during the return stroke. With the switch on "slow automatic," the counterweight does not start its travel until the bolt is fully into battery, and only when the counterweight itself is in battery, does the firing pin unlock.
