My Little Pony: Warfare is Magic

Empire of Neighpon: Warships (Imperial Neighponese Navy/Dai-Neighon Teikoku Kaigun)

Neighpon once had a very large (90% wooden, sail-powered) ocean-going navy and merchant fleet. Tirek's invasion destroyed almost every major ship, save a few, and Neighpon's insistance on participating in the Navarese Civil War caused the ruination of most of the rest, for want of proper maintenace. However, the Emperor spared no expense in immediately pushing for Nieghpon to have the most modern, most powerful fleet afloat, as soon as the nation was liberated. Unlike Earth's Japan, Neighpon has significant ore deposits, and a small wealth of coal and oil. With resources at his disposal, and a populace thirsting for revenge, Emperor no Ken's best shipbuilders poured over not only the captured Tirek ships, but also, the other ships in NEIGHTO to create the best and most powerful warships possible.

The Imperial Fleet has long range, but not as long as the Dutch, to allow them to transit to NEIGHTO lands fairly easily. They also mastered UNderway REPlenishment (UNREP), and created an extensive Merchant Marine fleet. The strengths of the Imperial Fleet include a focus on aircraft. With the small, nimble, but lightly armed Nacowjima S1A Scout Plane, the cruisers of the fleet have a very long scouting range. Their strike aircraft, the Mitshoebishi F2 Kitsune fighter/bomber, can carry the impressively powerful 610mm "Long Lance" (Nagai Yari) torpedo, capable of penetrating the hulls of most any of Tirek's ships. With one of the largest Fleet Carriers afloat, the INN can launch an impressive air strike from two carriers at once.
The Neighponese originally didn't use a ship prefix, but adopted "His Imperial Neighponese Majesty's Ship" (HINMS or Daineighonteikoku heika no Mifune) after the construction of the modern fleet. They adopted hull codes matching Equestria's for simplicity.

The impressively large Taiho-class carriers boast a huge aircraft compliment. At 200 meters long, they share the same hulls as the Yamato-class Super Dreadnaught Battleships. They also use the nonstandard 30mm Hitachi anti-aircraft cannon, which forms a middle ground between the NEIGHTO Standard 25mm and 40mm autocannon, offering the ability to mount a third gun in an independent sleeve, with a top-mounted free-feeding 12 round clip, and roughly 3/4ths the range of a 40mm system. The Taiho and Zuiho also boast an impressive operational range and very thick armor, with steel flight decks.

These giant battleships represent the pinnacle of naval power. Massive guns with a 50km range, a large AAA compliment, and the ability to land a whole Regiment of troops, the Yamato-class Super Dreadnaughts have the ability to righteously end any fight they get into, and have the armor necessary to shrug off almost any armor penetrating shell available to the enemy as of the date of its launching, minus the "Bokun Taiho" (Tyrant Gun) discovered by Neighponese forces under construction and never completed, on an island not far from Osaka. The Yamato-class can overmatch any enemy warship and most coastal fortifications.

Seeking to make a "do-all" independent cruising ship, the Neighponese created the impressive Atago-class cruisers. While heavily armed, with 8 8-Inch guns, they are hampered by the "C" turret being blocked from firing at a forward angle, and the "X" turret at the aft, being restricted to only a 28-degree elevation, to allow the Nacowjima S1's to launch with a full combat load. The deck abaft the stack has in-deck elevators to store 4 of the Scouts, and the above-deck hangar can store two more, with the last scout on the flight deck at all times, with only its single 7mm Machine Gun loaded, ready to take off at a moment's notice. The Oyodo-class Light Cruisers work similarly. With a long range, and excellent scouting ability, the Atago-class also boasts excellent armor, proofed to guns up to 10-inch medium velocity with ballistic cap, over the vital spaces, and 5-inch gun protection most everywhere else. Even the bridge has reinforced steel armor, and steel "curtains" to cover the windows, which themselves can withstand light cannon fire. These ships can easily overwhelm light cruisers and destroyers, but also have a significant AAA compliment, allowing them to screen the fleet in a combined fleet action.

The Oyodo-class light cruisers have a lot of tools at their disposal. From Long Lance torpedoes, to Scout planes, the ships can do almost everything. The back half of the superstrucutre has a folding "ski-jump" ramp to assist S1A's that are fully loaded with their ordnance, in taking off. For unarmed scout missions, this isn't needed. The Oyodos's are also very fast, and quite long legged, giving them the ability to effectively screen the fleet. The fast-firing 155mm guns have good range, and decent armor penetration, making them excellent for destroying raiding smaller vessels, like Destroyers and Frigates. Armor protection is "adequate" to resist destroyer guns, even over the bridge area - the bridge structure a near copy of the Atago-class, complete with armored window "curtains." Oyodo, Tatsuta, Ooi, and Yubari were also completed with Combat Information Centers, to function as Force Flagships or Flotilla Leaders.

Fast and deadly, the "Kaze" (Wind) class Fleet Destroyers are set up with a very heavy AAA compliment, with its dual-purpose 127mm guns with a maximum elevation of 60 degrees, and its two 30mm gun mounts. Short range protection is provided by 11mm machine guns - lots of them. The "Kaze's" are also the first major ships designed with depth charge launchers from the start, given the Neighponese military discovered a beached submarine soon after Tirek's occupation force was destroyed. It should be noted that the Nacowjima S1A Scout Planes on the cruisers can each carry a single Depth Charge.
