My Little Pony: Warfare is Magic

Collective Khyangese Republic: Firearms

The CKRCS has institutes that develop industrial sites for production of goods. These institutes first study the subject at hand, and develop all needs for it, in house. The story of Khyangese firearms starts with the "Fire Stick" first seen over 70 years ago, in their conflict with Prance. Essentially a small blast cup with a dart in it, at the end of a long stick, these "Fire Sticks" were often just as dangerous to the user, and were smartly outranged by Prench Crossbowponies. Their foray into "modern" firearms began with espionage against Equestria as early as the start of the war. The first rifle developed, the Type 1, proved to be a general failure. The Herdiet Union developed far superior weapons to the Type 1, so, again, the Khyangese simply stole it, adjusted a few things, and fielded Herdiet-based designs instead of trying to develop their own.

Type 1 Fire Rifle
WEAPON TYPE: Battle Rifle
CALIBER: 8x38mm Type 1
CAPACITY: 26 Round Detachable Box Magazine
EFFECTIVE RANGE: 200 meters
BARREL LENGTH: 340mm/13.38 inches
OVERALL LENGTH: 820mm/32.3 inches
OVERALL HEIGHT: 246mm/9.68 inches
TOTAL MASS: 10lbs/4.535kg
The Type 1 "Fire Rifle" was fielded only once - the Battle of Chowsin Ridge. 137 examples and 212 rounds of ammunition were collected from the battlefield. An analysis by General K concluded the weapon was many times overbuilt, and while the parts were inceredibly robust, they were oftentimes far thicker, wider, or longer than they needed to be. The barrels had rifling that was cut far too shallow to permit tight engagement from the bullet, and the bullets were unjacketed soft steel, that would wear out the barrels quickly. Even the cases were a type of lacquered steel, and as they didn't remove heat from the chamber effectively, the weapon was prone to overheating after extended use on full automatic. It's very clear the weapon was based on very early Patton and late Sherman design concepts, and ended up looking like a misshapen AKM-type rifle. The Khyangese military would later simply copy Herdiet designs. Even the caliber was dropped from production.

Type 22 Rifle
WEAPON TYPE: Assault Rifle
CALIBER: 7.92x44mm
CAPACITY: 30 Round Detachable Box Magazine
EFFECTIVE RANGE: 200 meters
BARREL LENGTH: 400mm/15.9 inches
OVERALL LENGTH: 820mm/32.3 inches
OVERALL HEIGHT: 216mm/8.5 inches
TOTAL MASS: 9lbs/4.08kg
The Type 22 Rifle is the primary assault rifle of the Khyangese Army. Copied from the SVK-71, but with the caliber changed to 7.92x44mm and with no provision for a scope mount, the Type 22 seems to be a decently reliable weapon. The reasons why this was chosen as the primary rifle, over the Type 23, are not immediately known, but it's suspected to partly be due to an inability to make as much steel in the same quality, as the Herdiet Union. Indeed, besides the barrel, bolt, and bolt handle, the steels on the Type 22 on any non-stressed part, are notably softer, though still more than durable enough for field use. Both the Type 22 and its cousin have integral, folding bayonets.

Type 23 Rifle
WEAPON TYPE: Assault Rifle
CALIBER: 7.92x44mm
CAPACITY: 30 Round Detachable Box Magazine
EFFECTIVE RANGE: 200 meters
BARREL LENGTH: 400mm/15.9 inches
OVERALL LENGTH: 810mm/31.8 inches

Similar to how the Earth Chinese preferred the SKS action, the Khyangese prefer the SVK action. The Type-23 is a Type-22 upper mated to a shortened AK-72 lower, with AK furniture in the rear, an adapted AK front sight, and an adapted Type-22 forend. This is mostly seen in the hands of officers, or specialist troops. The stock, interestingly, can be quickly removed with a push-button lever in the middle, towards the receiver. This allows the weapon to be made even shorter, either for storage, or possibly to be made more easily hoofed in an assault role.
